26 months of E&I inspection on the Escravos Gas Project.
Twenty-six months of electrical and instrumentation inspection across construction of the Escravos Gas Project Phase 3 — one of Nigeria’s largest onshore gas processing developments.
The situation
The Escravos Gas Project Phase 3 is one of Nigeria’s largest onshore gas processing developments. On a project of that size, electrical and instrumentation work is installed by many hands over a long period, and the difference between a plant that starts up cleanly and one that does not is whether that work was verified as it went in — not after.
What we did
Over 26 months we provided E&I inspection services across construction, covering:
- Cable installation — routing, support, segregation and mechanical protection
- Terminations — workmanship, identification and conformance to the termination schedules
- Earthing and bonding — continuity and conformance to the earthing design
- Instrument hook-ups — process and pneumatic connections against hook-up drawings
- Loop integrity — continuity and correctness of instrument loops before energisation
- Cable-pulling records — verification that the documentation matched what was actually installed
Every item verified against project specifications and the applicable international codes.
Why it was difficult
Sustained technical presence is the hard part of an inspection assignment. Anyone can inspect for a week. Holding a consistent standard on a major-project construction site for more than two years — as crews change, as pressure to close out builds, and as the temptation to accept "near enough" grows — is a different discipline.
What it demonstrates
Competence in E&I quality surveillance on high-value gas infrastructure, and the organisational stamina to hold it. It is also why our own installation work is documented the way it is: we have spent years on the other side of the inspection, and we know what a client’s inspector is looking for.
